Portraits 2021-2024
I began still life portraits in 2021. I gave the person I was going to “paint” a medium-size flat-rate priority postal box and asked them to fill it with things that were important, and that would tell me who they are/were. In most cases I went back and asked for a few additional specific things—because I had knew things that I wanted to include. My mentor Roland Reiss was the inspiration for this, but he died right before I had a chance to ask him to make a box, so I started with Tom, using both art objects and tools. My self-portrait includes things from my grandparents, parents and children, as well as from some close friends. It’s view of Boney Mountain is from my west studio window. I will continue this series over time.
